    The resulting pastry tastes amazing and the mix is much easier to handle with hands or a pastry blender. Not quite as flakey the first few times i made up one of the mixes but by box three (of five) i think i cracked the secret – use the very best real butter you can buy. I made up boxes three and four to create an american style apple pie (top crust with decorative cut-outs) – eaten in one go by husband and son, i’ve never had a pie consumed so quickly.

    But a little disappointed to find that it is not like the conventional. Have not tried it yet , but a little disappointed to find that it is not like the conventional pastry mix which i have been used to , where you just add water, this you also have to add the fat, so seemingly is possibly effectively just flour.

    Gf pastry which is light and crispy. . I used it as a quiche base and it was very good indeed, the best gluten free pastry i’ve eaten. Cannot recommend this too highly.

    1. I started using this several years ago because my son is wheat and gluten intolerant. Now i would not use anything else. It is easy to prepare and makes the best pastry ever.

    Handles like wheat pastry – fab. Used to make gf pastry and, although the flavour and mouth feel were fine, it was an absolute nightmare to handle; it also didn’t present well. Mrs crimble’s pastry mix handles as well as ordinary pastry, so i can do pies, tarts etc for dinner parties and they look fab. Won’t be making my own from now on.

It comes together well when you make it and is very easy to handle when rolled out between 2 sheets of cling film. I’ve found that there is little difference in flavour or texture when it’s used for pies etc compared to wheat pastry. My whole family, even those who eat gluten love it.
