Bacheldre Watermill Millers Malted Bread Mix 16 kg : Best Flour I have ever used

Bacheldre Watermill Millers Malted Bread Mix 16 kg : Best Flour I have ever used

Lovely loaves and good value for money. I originally bought the 500g bags of the same mix bacheldre watermill millers malted bread mix 500 g (pack of 10) which i found to be excellent. When i ran out, i saw this bulk bag which is much better value for money if you make bread a lot, as i do. It makes a lovely, tasty loaf. The only trouble i’ve found is that, because i’m not using it up very quickly, the effectiveness of the yeast has worn off. It doesn’t really matter though. I just add 1 tsp of yeast to 500g of flour when i make a loaf. I don’t think this large packet actually has the instructions on (i can’t remember now as i’ve thrown it away) but i just use 500g of flour, 25g of butter and 350ml of water (plus yeast if required).

Bacheldre watermill millers. Very pleased with my purchase of granary flour. I have found bacheldre watermill millers to be a no fuss no nonsense firm delivering promptly, an excellent bread flour.

Salt free tasting malted bread mix loaf. A fantastic flour with a fantastic loaf of bread. For those who think the mix has too much salt, try not using butter in the mix, replace it with 2 tbl spoons of olive oil. Butter is full of salt which adds to the salt in the flour mix. I use olive oil and do not get any salt taste. Here are the specifications for the Bacheldre Watermill Millers Malted Bread Mix 16 kg:

  • Stoneground wheat flour and all the right amount of ingredients to make a perfect loaf. This one has malted wheat and flour added for a lovely granary style loaf
  • Tasty and textured but not too heavy
  • Strong for bread making
  • Just add water
  • Enough to make 32 x 500 g loaves

Good price but much too salty. We bought this bread mix on subscription because we love granary style bread. The price for a 16kg bag was very reasonable and delivery was quick. However, the mixture contains far too much salt so we had to dilute the mix with ordinary bread flour and this rather spoiled the granary taste. The mix also needed the addition of bread improver otherwise the resulting bread was very heavy in texture and did not stay fresh for long. It is probably a good buy for those who like salty bread but we have decided to cancel our subscription.

We already have a couple of types of bacheldre bread flour delivered on subscription and decided to try the malted mix just to see what it was like. It’s worth noting that this is a mix and not just flour – took us a couple of loaves before we stopped adding additional yeast :)not much that i can say about it other than it’s lovely and malty and up to the usual high bacheldre standard. Would be nice if it didn’t have the ‘mix’ ingredients as it would take the complication out of combining it with other flours – malted rustic is very nice :).

Best flour i have ever used. I bought 2 bags of this when they were reduced. The flour is very high quality and produces to fantastic tasting bread. 32kg should have been enough to last me a year but a this rate i’ll need to re-order after 6.

    1. We have recently decided to try this flour and find this excellent, some people say that it is very salty, but we have not found this and we do not add salt to products. What we would suggest is using olive oil instead, although you could try unsalted butter. This product does need slightly more time to rise, as it is a heaver bread. Also if hand needing you need to do this for slightly longer than you would for other flours.
